DAY 1: WELCOME AT MERIDA – CITY TOUR.

Welcome at Merida airport. Transfer to hotel. And ready to start the tour in Yucatan. Note: check in starts 3:00 p.m.

This afternoon we will visit the Paseo Montejo, the Canton Palace, the cathedral, and will tell you where to enjoy some of the daily events that this city offers to visitors. Merida is the capital of the state of Yucatan and offers a great combination of art, history and culture in its cobbled streets, beautiful buildings and charming plazas. Lodging in Merida.


DAY 2: VISIT TO THE RÍA CELESTUN BIOSPHERE – LODGING IN MERIDA.

9:00 am. We will travel for 1 ½ hours to the Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve, which is the primary hibernation site for pink flamingos in the northern hemisphere. Also, it’s home of more  than 300 species of birds, as well as a wide variety of plants, reptiles and mammals.

 On this tour in Yucatan you can admire a large number of birds, but what makes this place special are the beautiful pink flamingo colonies. You will enjoy a boat ride through the mangroves and if you wish you can also swim in one of its springs, so it is recommended to bring a towel and a change of clothes. .

At the end of the walk there will be time to eat some delicious seafood in a nearby town of fihsermen.

Later we will transfer you to the hotel in Merida arriving at 5:00 p.m. approximately. Note: Flamingos live here almost all year round but the sighting of flamingos depends on weather factors and migration season. Lodging in Merida.


DAY 3: UXMAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL ZONE – CHOCO STORY – MERIDA

9:00 am. Departure and transfer of 1 hour to visit the archaeological zone of Uxmal. This wonder of the Mayan Culture, declared a World Heritage Site, is distinguished by its detailed architecture, its innovative arches, advanced for those times, and by the existence of the first cisterns built by the Maya to store water.

Among the buildings that will be known are the Casa del Adivino, the Governor’s Palace and the Convent.

 Finishing we will take you to a Museum dedicated to Cacao: Choco Story, at 5 minutes from the archaeological zone.

Learn a little more about this fascinating product that was used as currency, as an offering of Gods, and as an exquisite drink of high privilege used in rituals and ceremonies. Return to Merida arriving at 3:00 p.m. approximately. Lodging in Merida.


DAY 4: CENOTES OF SANTA BÁRBARA – SPARE TIME

9:00 am. Departure and transfer of 1 ¼ hour to the Cenotes of Santa Bárbara. In this place you can enjoy 3 of its cenotes: one closed, another semi open and the other open.

Enjoy its crystal clear waters is the most attractive, no doubt, but you can also enjoy a short ride in a truck or tour the place in bicycle. Note: The place has a restaurant with typical Yucatecan food.

 2:30 pm. Transfer back to Merida arriving at 4:00 p.m. approximately. To enjoy the afternoon off you can visit the Mayan World Museum and at night a cultural event is held in different stages of the city of Mérida.

DAY 5: CHICHEN ITZA ARCHAEOLOGICAL ZONE – IZAMAL TOWN – MERIDA

8:00 am. Departure and transfer of 1 ½ hours to the archaeological zone of Chichen Itzá, Wonder of the World, of the Mayan Culture and also Patrimony of the Humanity.

During the tour you can visit the Observatory, the Ball Game, the Temple of the Thousand Columns and the world famous pyramid of Kukulkan where twice a year, during the equinox, the feathered serpent formed by the sun’s rays falls.

12:30 pm. Transfer 1 hour to the Magic Town of Izamal. When you arrive at this place you will be gladly surrounded by the ocher yellow hue of its buildings and the relaxed atmosphere of the town. One of its main attractions is the San Antonio de Padua Franciscan Convent, which Pope John Paul II visited in 1993.

Take note of its construction on a Mayan pyramid, its newly restored altarpiece, the stained glass window of San Francisco de Asís, the stations, and its statues. You will love this tour in Yucatan. Note: Meal can be taken before leaving Chichen Itza or arriving at Izamal.

We will be arriving in Mérida at 6:00 p.m. approximately. Lodging in Merida.


DAY 6: HACIENDA SOTUTA DE PEÓN – CENOTE – MERIDA.

8:30 a.m. We will move to visit the Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, where we will make an interesting journey to the past while enjoying the most important points of the hacienda. While exploring the hacienda, you will feel transported back in time, for example when riding on wooden platforms on rails called “Trucks” which are pulled by mules, as workers used them more than a hundred years ago.

Here, you can witness the transformation process of Henequen (also called Green Gold in this region), from the plant to the fiber, and from the fiber to the finished product. 

You will also be able to visit a typical Mayan house and can also refresh yourself in the best kept secret of the Hacienda, a hidden Cenote, where you can swim in beautiful crystal clear and refreshing waters. At the end of the tour in Yucatan there will be time to eat at the Hacienda and later we will transfer you back to the hotel in Merida.

DAY 7: TRANSFER TO MERIDA AIRPORT – END OF THE TOUR IN YUCATAN

The transfer schedule will be defined depending on the departure time of the flight.

Please note that check-out at most hotels is at 12:00 hours.
